Karas is the Black Dragon created as an experiment by Ancients a long time ago using a broken fragment of the Chaos Dragon. 50 years ago, Karas raised an army to destroy the world of Altea. The Golden Dragon Geraint formed the Six Heroes to combat the Black Dragon. Before its jewel was taken by Velskud, Karas manifested as an artificial dragon created by combining multiple Ancient test subjects into a vessel for the dragon. Velskud stole its jewel after the Gold Dragon Geraint slew the Black Dragon, but eventually loses the jewel to Rozalinde. It was turned over to King Feather, but in turn was snatched back by Argenta, who absorbed it into her body and was killed by Velskud at her request.

Karas appears as one of main antagonists of the film, the other being Elena.
A century prior to the present, Karas was defeated by human-elves alliance but not completely destroyed — the Black Dragon was sealed away deep in Dark Mountains. In the next decades unknown to both races who occupied by their own rivalry, the dormant Karas gradually regained its strength with evil beings who venerated it waited for its reawakening. The immense magic of Black Dragon Jewel, the gem which served as Karas' source of power, was said to be so potent those who possessed it gained the ability to control both life and death — the reason Elena coveted it for her malevolent agenda and even tempted Velskud to join her cause.
As the day of its reawakening loomed near, the Black Dragon's followers were getting bolder, something which noticed by Nerwin hence her attempt to propose an alliance with the current human king of Saint Haven to deal the threat. It took the monsters' success in reaching the city the king eventually relented. Having concluded that Karas was too much for even human-elf alliance's vast army led by Kuke however, the Six Heroes (Geraint, Barnac, Nerwin, Terramai, Karacule, and Velskud), alongside Argenta, Lambert, and Liya, set out to do everyone a favor by vanquishing the Black Dragon and secured its Jewel by themselves. But a series of complications they faced saw the army arrived first and subsequently eradicated by the newly awakened Karas.
Karas itself confronted the Six Heroes and their allies soon after just as they struggled to handle the revelation of Geraint and Argenta's true draconic nature. At first, only Geraint in his true, lion-like dragon form who opposed the Black Dragon as everyone was too afraid, which didn't help by Liya dying from a lethal blow inflicted by one of Karas' devotees. Then, when Lambert joined the fight in a bid to utilize the Black Dragon's Jewel to revive Liya, the group followed soon after. In the ensuing epic battle, Karas blasted Argenta who attempted to save her brother unconscious for the rest of the fight before finally vanquished itself.
All that left of Karas was the Black Dragon Jewel in the grasp of Geraint who struggled to keep its evil magic contained. Seeing how desperate Lambert was in resusciating Liya with the Jewel despite its dangers, Geraint lent the young warrior his own Jewel instead. The alternate solution worked, though Lambert had to hastily return Geraint's Jewel to its owner because Velskud suddenly revealed his true colors and turned against his comrades. A heated duel between Lambert and Velskud ensued, their fight escalated as soon as it started because the latter dangerously fused with Black Dragon Jewel, gradually attaining Karas' features in process. It took combined efforts of Lambert and the newly awakened Liya that the mutated Velskud finally defeated. In his last moments before falling into burning chasm below, Velskud lamented to Geraint how right the latter's warnings about Black Dragon Jewel was.
Unknown to the heroes who resced by Elven reinforcements, Black Dragon Jewel survived its host's death and in the possession of Elena, intending to proceed with her next move with it.
